ALBION, NY– April 20, 2020 – Apex Clean Energy and Heritage Wind have awarded a special grant to the Orleans Community Health Foundation in response to the COVID-19 crisis. The $4,000 grant will help the foundation secure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sterilization equipment and other resources as needed to assist in the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic at Medina Memorial Hospital.
“The front-line health care workers at Orleans County’s only hospital are the first line of defense for this community in the fight against COVID-19,” said Heritage Wind spokesman Brian O’Shea. “We want to do everything we can to help ensure they have what they need to both protect themselves and care for their patients.”
Orleans Community Health Foundation Executive Director Heather Smith says there has been a high demand for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for health care workers. This grant will help ensure Orleans Community Health will have new rapid sterilization equipment (pictured) to safely extend the life of PPE, which in turn, protects their workers and the public.
“We are thankful for this support from Apex Clean Energy and Heritage Wind because, as you can imagine, our resources are stretched thin. PPE supplies are low, and costs are high. This grant will enable us to invest in sterilization solutions to safely reuse the PPE we have on hand as we work to secure more N-95 masks and other protective gear,” said Smith.
Heritage Wind recently launched a new community grant program and will continue to look for ways to support critical community needs. Grant applications are currently being reviewed and additional grants will be awarded in early May.
