INTRODUCING HERITAGE WIND 

Apex Clean Energy is developing Heritage Wind, a wind energy project in Barre, New York. Apex has spent the past few years in Orleans County talking to hundreds of people who have shown significant interest in wind energy. A project such as Heritage Wind can bring the community together in economic development while enhancing its agricultural roots.

ABOUT HERITAGE WIND

With support from the Barre community, Heritage Wind could generate up to 173.6 megawatts of clean, homegrown energy. 

Heritage Wind received its Final Permit from the Office of Renewable Energy Siting (ORES) on January 13, 2022 and is currently undergoing review of a major modification amendment. The project intends to start construction in fall of 2024 and be operational by the end of 2026.

AN ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR ORLEANS COUNTY

Heritage Wind would create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for schools, government, and landowners. The total direct financial impact to the region is likely to be in the millions of dollars over about 25 years, with additional indirect economic benefits greatly exceeding that number.

Developed and constructed with private capital, the project will to enter a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement with the local tax jurisdictions and a Host Community Agreement (HCA) with the town. These payments to the taxing jurisdictions for an up to 173.6 MW project are projected to total approximately $1.5 million per year.

Landowners with wind facilities on their property would receive annual lease payments. These payments would continue over the projected 30-year lifespan of the wind farm, injecting millions of dollars into the economies of Barre and Orleans County to support local merchants, contractors, equipment suppliers, auto dealers, and others.

The power from Heritage Wind would be delivered into the New York electrical grid, which is managed by the New York ISO (NYISO).
