REPORT: Wind farms boost agricultural property values

Did you know that wind farms can actually boost local property values? Wind turbines and facilities have been shown to increase the assessed value of agricultural property.

Wind turbines allow farmers to harvest the wind, a crop that requires no water, no food, and none of the farmer’s labor. Wind energy also offers farmers a reliable revenue stream, providing a hedge against low-yield years, droughts, and other risks to crop production.

According to the 2012-Land-Values-Report by the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, wind farm activity, where already planned or under construction, continues to positively impact agricultural land values.
